Question from a Visitor Regarding Temozolomide and Bone Cancer
My father has cancer of the bones. His
doctor wants to try this medicine. Can you tell me anything about
this TEMOZOLOMIDE and will it help him at this late
stage?
Thank You
Allabh
Answer
Dear Mr. B:
Temozolomide is TEMODAR (temozolomide). It is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with refractory anaplastic astrocytoma, i.e., patients at first relapse who have experienced disease progression on a drug regimen containing a nitrosourea and procarbazine. Astrocytoma is a brain cancer.
This indication is based on the response rate in the indicated population. No results are available from randomized controlled trials in recurrent anaplastic astrocytoma that demonstrate a clinical benefit resulting from treatment, such as improvement in disease- related symptoms, delayed disease progression, or improved survival.
You told me your dad has bone cancer. There are different types of bone cancer. You need to make sure of the type of cancer he has. My answer or
another physician's answer may not apply to your dad's case if we don't know exactly the cancer type.
Sorry about your dad.
Sincerely
Dr. CG
