A visitor on Fibromyalgia
I would like to have some info on Fibromyalgia. There are a
lot of African Americans with FMS/CFS/Lupus/MS/MFS/OA, which is also genetic. We have several
members of our family with at least 2 or 3 of these illness. Some of the women are in their early 30s unable to work. I've been on disability for ~4 years. This is an invisible painful illness, it's a living hell everyday.

Answer:
Dear site visitor :
This answer does in no way replace a consultation with your
doctor.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by fatigue and widespread pain in the fibrous tissues in your muscles, ligaments and tendons. Previously, the condition was known by other names, including fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.
In 1990, the American College of Rheumatology identified specific criteria for fibromyalgia. For a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, at least 11 of 18 specific areas of your body must be intensely painful under pressure. Also, you must have had widespread pain lasting at least 3 months.
Although the intensity of your symptoms may vary, they will probably never disappear completely. But it may be reassuring to know that fibromyalgia isn't progressive, crippling or life-threatening.
