SNMA Banquet May 2003 in Honor of Graduating Minority Med Students:
Dr. Kenitra Henderson, Dr. Maureen Letts, Dr. Roshni Patel, Dr. Tamula Patterson-Thomas, Dr. William Washington
On Saturday May 24, 2003, the SNMA (Cincinnati Chapter) organized a banquet at the Cincinnati Zoo in honor of five minority students graduating from a class of 152 at the University of Cincinnati Medical College. The new graduates enjoyed down to the last minutes these satisfying and proud moments, surrounded by friends, families and colleagues. Marilyn Hughes Gaston, M.D. , former Assistant Surgeon-General, delivered the keynote address. Dr. Gaston reminded the new graduates that part of their task ahead is to help closing the health gap affecting African Americans and other minorities at risk in the U.S.. She also seized the opportunity to urge the audience present at the banquet that they also should help at a personal level bridging this negative health gap by changing any unhealthy lifestyle, exercising, eating the right food, fighting obesity, and so forth.
The graduating med students will go on with their career, having enrolled in residency programs in Michigan, Atlanta, and Chicago.
