Is A1c At Home™ a meter?
No. This is a mail-in laboratory test.

How do I collect the blood sample?
You apply 2 drops of blood from a fingerstick to a test filter paper that's included in the kit. If you're doing daily blood glucose testing, you can usually do the test after you've stuck your finger for one of your daily tests.

How is the A1c test different from daily blood glucose testing?
When you do daily blood glucose tests, you get different readings throughout the day, which help you make adjustments in your medication or diet as necessary. However, for long-term diabetes management, you need to look at your overall progress. That's where the A1c test comes into play. It measures your average blood glucose level over the past three months or so. According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), you should have an A1c test done two to four times a year.

Do I need a prescription to order?
You do not need a prescription to order A1c At Home™ since it has been cleared for over-the-counter (OTC) sales by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Will my health insurance plan pay for this test?
Each health plan is unique. You can contact your insurance company to see if they'll reimburse you after you've purchased the kit. You'll need to submit a claim form to them to receive payment.

When will I receive my results?
We process the sample within 48 hours from when we receive it and promptly mail the results to you and any authorizing healthcare professional. You should receive results about 7 to 10 business days after you mail your sample to us.

Is this test accurate?
Yes, this is a clinical laboratory test. Unlike some other at-home tests, this is actually an at-home sample collection kit for mail-in laboratory testing. The correlation between the A1c At Home™ test and whole blood is 0.98. FlexSite Diagnostics has also performed extensive studies on mailing conditions, finding that the dried blood spots are stable under typical mailing conditions, even at extreme temperatures.

Dip the special urine collection paddle into the cup, let it dry overnight, and mail it in the enclosed return envelope.

Where can I purchase A1c At home™ & KidneyScreen At Home™?
You can purchase our mail-in lab test kits at selected pharmacies and medical supply retailers, online from various medical or diabetes web sites such our site.

Fill out form completely and legibly. An incomplete form may prevent the laboratory from testing. IMPORTANT: You will need a doctor’s authorization for this test. If you desire, our medical director will authorize the test for you. If you would like your doctor to receive the results, please fill out his/her name and address on the Mailing Label provided. You MUST fill in the date that you applied the blood to the collection circles. NOTE: Patients who live in Maryland or Nevada are required to get authorization from their local doctor.

Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water. Completely dry your hands.

Prick your finger using the enclosed lancing device or you can use your own lancet.

Squeeze blood from your finger to fall onto each of the collection circles. The blood should completely fill each circle. Overfill is acceptable.

Place the Label (if required) and the bag containing the form with the dried blood samples in the Return Envelope.
